Maglaj: People mostly still invest in rebuilding houses and apartments themselves

The Turkish government has already prepared slightly more than 700,000 KM for the "Pobjeda" sports hall. And we will try to combine something with the Slovenian government, said the Mayor of Maglaj Municipality, Mehmed Mustabašić, for the BH News Agency Patria.

We remind you that the water element devastated Maglaj in mid-May, as well as this hall. After it was cleaned, only bare walls remained, and the damage was estimated at around 800,000 KM. Numerous sports clubs were left without a place to train. Incidentally, the sports hall was built on April 16, 1977, with joint funds from the working people and citizens of Maglaj Municipality, as stated on the info board.

Mayor Mustabašić emphasized that people whose apartments and houses were flooded are having the hardest time.

- The least funds arrived for housing construction; people did a lot of things independently and helped each other. Some went through humanitarian organizations, but everything is moving very slowly – he states, adding that the economy is slowly recovering, but still at a reduced capacity.

Given that the new school year starts tomorrow, Mustabašić said that this will not be possible in the four Maglaj schools, two primary and two secondary, as well as one branch school.

- The workers are still in the schools. Renovations are underway, but safe conditions for the teaching process must be ensured. I hope that will be possible by the end of September – said Mustabašić.

Active landslides in this municipality have stopped, but given that new rainfall has been announced, there is a fear of the ground moving again.

- The landslide in Donji Bradići has stopped, and the road is being designed with USAID funds – says Mustabašić.
