Magazinović withdraws Declaration from procedure, proposes Resolution on Palestine: It should be adopted on a human level

(Patria) - Member of the House of Representatives of the BiH Parliament Saša Magazinović (SDP BiH) has withdrawn the Proposal for a Declaration on the Protection of Civilians, Humanitarian Aid, and Freedom of Media Reporting in Palestine, which he submitted on August 22, from parliamentary procedure.

He does not state the reasons for withdrawing this Declaration, the text of which he prepared with the assistance of the Palestinian Ambassador to BiH, Rezeq Namoor. Interestingly, the official agenda for the next session of this house on September 11 lists a Resolution, under a new number from September 1, while Magazinović's letter refers to a Declaration. Otherwise, the text of the Resolution itself does not mention who is committing crimes, nor does it mention Israel. Whether this proposed Resolution will remain on the agenda until the session itself will be clearer in the coming days.

We asked Magazinović why the change occurred.

"The text is the same, it's just a technical matter at the suggestion of the expert service," Magazinović told Patria.

When asked if he expects support, he emphasizes that he worked with the embassy to make the text acceptable.

"It should be adopted on a human level. There is nothing controversial in the document. Condemnation of the inhumane," said Magazinović.

On August 15, Magazinović, together with Ambassador Namoor, held a press conference where he emphasized that their own experience of suffering obliges them to raise their voices clearly and loudly, even institutionally, against ruthless war, aggression, and the killing of civilians. He then stated that the text of the Declaration is a test of humanity in the BiH Parliament.

"I want to believe that the decision-makers in the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH will choose to be human, because this is no longer a political issue, but exclusively a human one," stated Magazinović.

He added that if they have the same stance in front of the cameras and in the hall as they do when the cameras are not present, he is sure they will support the adoption of this declaration.

"By simply bringing this topic into the highest legislative body of Bosnia and Herzegovina, we are taking an important step. What is happening in Palestine today is no longer an abstract news item. These are bombs falling on houses, these are parents holding dead children in their arms, these are mothers who have nothing to give their children to eat and who watch them starve to death. These are the elderly leaving cities because they have nowhere to return. Every number of victims in Palestine represents a human face. Every person who has suffered, every child killed in Palestine has their own story," Magazinović emphasized on August 15.

He spoke very emotionally about this Declaration and his children at the time, so it is unclear why he decided to withdraw it from the procedure, unless he is unsure it will pass. The situation in Gaza is worsening day by day, and besides chronic hunger that is killing children, Israel is not giving up on the complete displacement of Gaza.

The Council of Ministers of BiH has never paid a million KM in aid to Gaza. Instead of aid, the Chairperson of the Council of Ministers of BiH, Borjana Krišto, invited the Palestinian ambassador to a grape harvest last week.

The Declaration calls for an immediate and unconditional cessation of all aggressive actions in the Gaza Strip, including the suspension of armed attacks from the air, land, and sea, as well as rocket attacks and other forms of armed action.

"We express deep and lasting concern over the continuous and mass suffering of civilians, including children, women, and the elderly. We strongly and unequivocally condemn all attacks directed against civilians, including indiscriminate military operations, attacks on civilian infrastructure, and acts of terrorism. We strongly and unequivocally condemn the use of starvation and denial of aid as a tactic of war," stated Magazinović.

The proposed declaration emphasizes the need for full and lasting protection of humanitarian personnel, hospitals, clinics, and other facilities vital for the survival of the civilian population, and calls for enabling rapid, safe, and complete delivery of humanitarian aid, including food, medicine, water, and fuel to all affected areas.
