Macron on BiH Election Law: Reform in a way that respects all constituent peoples

(Patria) - French President Emmanuel Macron is visiting Croatia, and today after a meeting with Prime Minister Andrej Plenković, he said that one of the topics of the meeting was Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Macron said that in some countries of the Western Balkans there are problems.

"We discussed the situation in the Western Balkans. We discussed the necessary reform concerning the Election Law in BiH, and we need to act jointly on this, and we will do so in the coming months. What we will try to do in the coming months is to do more to stabilize the situation between Bulgaria and North Macedonia, to insist that in BiH the reform of the Election Law is carried out in a way that respects all constituent peoples of BiH, and we know there are tensions between Pristina and Belgrade. France's vision is that we need to build a space of peace, stability, cooperation, and strengthen the flow of people. We want to turn this area into a true European space," Macron said.

Plenković confirmed that BiH was a special topic of the conversation.

"We explained Croatia's position and we hope that in the coming weeks and months we will find a solution that would help reform the Election Law so that in BiH, legitimate representatives of political parties who represent all three peoples are elected in a fair manner, as agreed in the Dayton Paris Agreement in 1995," Plenković said.
