Fire in Goražde contained, apartment blaze causes major material damage

(Patria) - A fire that broke out in the afternoon in an apartment in the "Gradina" residential building, located on Prve slavne višegradske brigade Street in Goražde, has been successfully contained.

This information was confirmed by the Assistant Mayor of Goražde for Civil Protection, Sanid Zirak, reports Faktor.

Zirak stated that the fire broke out around 2:55 PM in an apartment on the fifth floor of the residential building and that, fortunately, there were no fatalities or injuries.

- At the time of the fire, the apartment was empty. Firefighters extinguished the blaze and prevented its further spread to nearby apartments.

According to initial preliminary assessments by firefighters and police, it is assumed that the cause of the fire was an explosion of the air conditioner, i.e., its outdoor unit - said Zirak.

However, the actual cause of the fire will certainly be determined by the competent authorities, Zirak stated, adding that this is a warning to all who use air conditioners.

- This is an example and at the same time a warning of how important it is to take care of the proper functioning of air conditioners and that they should be regularly serviced, in order to avoid such undesirable consequences.

The material damage in the apartment is extensive, and we, as the City Civil Protection Headquarters, have made ourselves available to the apartment owner to submit a request for assistance.

The competent commission will carry out an assessment within seven days, and we are ready to respond in accordance with our capabilities - added Zirak.
