Curine njive site most critical due to intense and dynamic geological changes

(Patria) - Employees of the Civil Protection Service of the Municipality of Stari Grad Sarajevo, during a tour of the Curine njive site (Municipality of Istočni Stari Grad and Municipality of Stari Grad Sarajevo – Bostarići) on Sunday, observed significant geological changes, including the formation of cracks due to soil movement, which are continuously widening and deepening.

The presence of groundwater is further destabilizing the soil, causing the formation of flooded areas and intense erosion of the land towards residential buildings on Ablakovina street.

The site has been assessed as the most critical due to intense and dynamic geological changes, requiring enhanced and continuous monitoring.

At the Knjeginjac site (Municipality of Istočni Stari Grad), no new construction material has been deposited, but subsidence of the existing landfill material has been observed, along with initial signs of erosion.

The Municipality of Istočni Stari Grad has completed the construction of an access road to the Curine njive site, while drainage channel works, initiated earlier for surface water drainage and terrain stabilization, are currently not being carried out.

At the Bistrički potok site (Municipality of Stari Grad Sarajevo – Boguševac and Municipality of Istočni Stari Grad), the stream bed remains partially blocked by earth-stone material and fallen trees. No new degradation has been recorded, nor have any measures been taken by the Municipality of Istočni Stari Grad to remove the existing obstacles, as stated by FUCZ.

The Municipal Civil Protection Headquarters of Stari Grad has organized 24-hour surveillance of the terrain in endangered landslide areas, specifically at the Curine njive, Knjeginjac, and Bistrički potok sites, in order to ensure timely protective measures for the population (timely warning and evacuation, if the situation requires) and infrastructure.
