Beautiful yard decoration: Man from Kakanj grows bananas

Climate change is definitely affecting Bosnia and Herzegovina as well. Warmer summers have made it possible to grow exotic fruits in Bosnia and Herzegovina. This is shown by the example from Kakanj. Dževad Hamzić from the settlement of Povezice grows bananas in his yard.

- The banana tree in my yard has been growing for eight years. It bears fruit, but unfortunately, due to the shortness of summer, they do not ripen. If summer in BiH lasted until December, then the banana fruits would ripen – Hamzić tells the Patria News Agency. He added that bananas could thrive in BiH if grown in greenhouses, where it is possible to maintain the temperature even after summer.

- But, even without ripe fruit, the banana is a beautiful decoration in the yard – says Hamzić.

During winter, the banana leaves fall off, and Hamzić protects the remaining trunk with foil and sawdust insulation. In spring, vegetation starts again. The leaves grow up to five meters long, writes Patria.
