Party leaders meet with Venice Commission

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - Leaders of five parties (SDA, SBB, SDP, DF, and HDZ) will hold a meeting today at the European Union Delegation building with experts from the Venice Commission, who have previously held a series of meetings with party delegations, regarding amendments to the Election Law.

We remind you that after the last meeting of the five political parties SDA, SBB, HDZ BiH, DF, and SDP BiH in the EU Delegation building with representatives of the Venice Commission, regarding the implementation of the Constitutional Court's decision in the "Ljubić" case, it could be concluded that the Venice Commission has provided a framework and possibilities for resolving this burning issue in BiH and that a solution should be sought through the FBiH Constitution.

Zoran Mikulić from SDP BiH, explaining the situation, pointed out that the BiH Constitutional Court abolished the imperative provision that one representative from each of the three constituent peoples must be elected from each canton, while the FBiH Constitution states that one representative is elected if there is one, or if they are elected.

- That imperative provision is the difference, and we can achieve a solution through a law at the level of the Federation of BiH, and you know that SDP and DF have proposed something like that - Mikulić stated.

Damir Arnaut, representative of SBB, then stated that it is good that the Venice Commission has set such a framework that the amendments to the Election Law are made in a way that only implements the Constitutional Court's decision related to the filling of the House of Peoples of the Federal Parliament.

From this, it follows, although no one has explicitly said it, that the amendments to the Election Law can only be implemented in the context of filling the House of Peoples of the FBiH and that there will be no amendments in terms of electing members of the Presidency, which, we remind you, HDZ insisted on.
