Parliament leaders in BiH consider recommendations from Twinning project

Newly elected leaders of parliaments in BiH and representatives of the Delegation of the European Union to BiH will gather tomorrow, March 18 in Međugorje to, at a two-day meeting, consider key recommendations stemming from the implementation so far of the Twinning project dedicated to strengthening the role of parliaments in Bosnia and Herzegovina in the context of European integration, reports the Patria news agency.  

In addition to the leadership of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Parliament of the Federation of BiH, the National Assembly of Republika Srpska and the Parliament of Brčko District, the meeting will also be attended by the Chargé d'affaires and Acting Head of the Delegation of the European Union to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Renzo Daviddi.

During the meeting, organized by the Twinning project implementation team, it is planned to consider recommendations from a total of seven areas related to the work of parliaments, improvement of legislative activity and parliamentary oversight of the executive branch, as well as improvement of the work of parliamentary administration. At the same time, discussions will also be held on establishing full coordination of the work of parliaments in BiH in the process of European integration of our country.

The two-year Twinning project, funded by the European Union and implemented by the National Assembly of Hungary in cooperation with the National Assembly of France, is entering its second year of implementation. In the implementation of the project, whose goal is to improve the role of parliaments in implementing the Stabilisation and Association Agreement and in the overall process of Bosnia and Herzegovina's accession to the European Union, experts from several other European Union member states also participate in order to present to parliamentarians and parliamentary officials in BiH a wide range of best European practices and solutions related to parliamentary structures and procedures.

The purpose of this project, which will be completed in February 2016, is also to strengthen the capacities of deputies and the administration of parliaments in BiH for strategic management of the accession process and dialogue with the European Parliament and the European Union, strengthening mechanisms and capacities for harmonizing legislation with the European legal heritage (Acquis), as well as coordination of parliaments in BiH in these processes, it was announced from the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH.
