Leaders continue negotiations on the Election Law

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - Five political leaders from SDA, HDZ BiH, SBB, SDP BiH and DF continue their meeting today with representatives of the Venice Commission on amendments to the Election Law. Yesterday's three-hour meeting brought nothing new, as all political options remain committed to their positions. 

President of SDP BiH Nermin Nikšić said he is glad that the Venice Commission confirmed that the Election Law cannot be in conflict with the Constitution of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina. 

On the other hand, HDZ BiH does not want amendments that would only address the House of Peoples of the Parliament of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, but also the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Today, statements will also be given by US Ambassador Maureen Cormack, Head of the EU Delegation Lars Gunnar Wigemark, Acting Deputy Assistant Secretary of State of the United States of America Matthew Palmer, and Director at the EEAS for Western Europe, Western Balkans and Turkey Angelina Eichhorst.

We recall that the Venice Commission, during earlier consultations, provided a framework and possibilities for resolving this pressing issue in Bosnia and Herzegovina, namely that a solution should be sought through the Constitution of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
