Ler: We have no suspected cases, we are acting in accordance with WHO recommendations

Due to the outbreak of the deadly Ebola virus in the world, the largest in the last 40 years, which has already killed more than 1,000 people in West Africa, preventive measures are also in place in BiH due to this virus, writes the Bosnian news agency Patria.

As stated by Željko Ler, director of the Institute for Public Health of the Federation of BiH, all measures are being taken in accordance with the recommendations of the World Health Organization (WHO).

- From monitoring passengers in international traffic, to the coordination of all relevant entities, starting from the State Border Service, inspection services to the institutes for public health, emergency services. An isolation unit has also been organized at the Sarajevo International Airport, and the Clinic for Infectious Diseases has been prepared for the admission of such patients - said Ler.

As he confirmed, for now there are no cases that would be placed under surveillance or suspected of infection. Ebola is primarily an infectious disease of wild animals in rainforests, which transmit the infection to humans through direct contact with the body of an infected animal or person, or with their secretions and excrement. It is not usually transmitted through the air, however, it has been confirmed that it can be transmitted in small droplets that can be inhaled. It was named after the Ebola River in the Democratic Republic of Congo, where the disease was first identified in 1976 in a hospital run by Flemish nuns. There is currently no cure for Ebola.
