Lendo in Srebrenica: Preserving the truth about genocide and protecting the rights of returnees is our obligation

(Patria) - FBiH Vice President Refik Lendo is visiting Srebrenica on the occasion of March 1st, Independence Day of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

During the visit, he held a working meeting at the Srebrenica Municipality building with Deputy Mayor Hamdija Fejzić, President of the Municipal Assembly Almir Dudić, and President of the Bosniak Club in the Council of Peoples of Republika Srpska Alija Tabaković.

The meeting discussed the current security situation, the position of returnees, the protection and realization of citizens' rights guaranteed by the Constitution and laws in the territory of the smaller Bosnian entity, as well as infrastructure and development projects of importance to the local community.

Lendo emphasized that it is the obligation of all institutions to ensure full legal security, protection, and equality of all citizens, with consistent respect for the constitutional order of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

- The security and rights of returnees cannot be viewed as a local issue. It is a state issue of special importance, because no citizen of Bosnia and Herzegovina should be denied the rights guaranteed to them by the highest legal acts of our country - said Lendo.

As part of the visit program, he also visited the Srebrenica-Potočari Memorial Center, where he laid flowers to pay tribute to the victims of the genocide, and visited the Museum of Genocide Victims in Srebrenica, which documents the suffering of Bosniaks from 1992, as well as the process of finding and identifying victims after July 1995.

He stressed that nurturing a culture of remembrance and preserving the truth about the genocide are a permanent institutional and moral obligation, especially in a time of attempts to deny and relativize judicially established facts, and that the truth about Srebrenica must remain a permanent foundation of justice and a warning to future generations.

As part of the celebration of Bosnia and Herzegovina's Independence Day, Lendo will address a formal forum on the topic "March 1st, BiH Independence Day: Freedom, Responsibility, and Future," which will be held at the Srebrenica Bosnian Cultural Center.
