Lendo: Alagić led an honorable struggle, while the military leadership of the so-called Herceg-Bosna and Dario Kordić were convicted of war crimes

(Patria) - The statement by HDZ delegates in the House of Peoples of the FBiH Parliament, in which they attempt to problematize the erection of a monument to General Mehmed Alagić, is a very poor attempt to equate responsibility for war crimes committed during the aggression against Bosnia and Herzegovina with falsehoods and historical revisionism, states Refik Lendo, Vice President of the FBiH.

"General Mehmed Alagić, through his personal example, military knowledge, and respect for all rules and customs of warfare, led the honorable struggle of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina in defense of the state from aggression and a joint criminal enterprise. The monument on Vlašić will remain as a permanent testament to his heroic and honorable historical role.

Unlike General Alagić, the entire political and military leadership of the so-called Herceg-Bosna, including Dario Kordić, a war criminal who was given a ceremonial welcome by the current leadership of HDZ BiH upon his release from prison, has been convicted by the Hague Tribunal for responsibility for committed war crimes. If they truly care about respecting victims, the HDZ delegates had the opportunity to show that respect by condemning Kordić's crimes, those who gave him a welcome, and those who defended his scandalous statement that he would "do it all again".

We will never agree to the criminalization of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina and its honorable members in an attempt to create a balance between all parties in responsibility for war crimes. There was no balance in crimes, so there is no balance in responsibility, as clearly shown by the verdicts of the most relevant international courts.

By falsely accusing General Alagić and glorifying war criminals, HDZ delegates show that they do not respect the verdicts of the Hague Tribunal, and with insults towards the member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Željko Komšić, they show that they do not respect the Constitution of our country, according to which Komšić was elected to that position.

I call on the HDZ delegates to, instead of historical revisionism, start dealing with the real process of reconciliation, and they can begin by clearly distancing themselves from the policies that the Hague Tribunal identified as a 'joint criminal enterprise'," Lendo stated.
