Lejla Tanović achieves career-best ranking

The best BiH cyclist Lejla Tanović (21), a member of the cycling club „Puls“ and the professional team Salcano Cappadocia, has achieved her best career ranking on the UCI list after the latest points update. Tanović now holds the 90th position on the UCI list, which is the best result for Bosnia and Herzegovina.

This is a unique ranking list of professional cyclists without age or other categories.

- Lejla had the best season of her career, and the 90th place in the world is a reward for the end of the season. This year, she won second place at the Balkan Championship in Greece in the strongest elite category, and in addition, she has won medals at UCI races six times. However, the biggest contribution to her progress on the UCI list was winning 3rd place at the UCI C1 race in Istanbul. Now there is a break, followed by preparations for the next season, where our goal is to enter the top 60 in the world, which would greatly facilitate the collection of points for participation in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics - said coach Amar Njemčević.

On the domestic scene, Lejla is the overall winner of the BiH Premier League for the fourth time in a row, which is her 9th national competition title.

- The season was very long and difficult, but my effort paid off and I am very happy about it. I was most prepared for the most important races and won valuable UCI points thanks to the training program prepared by my coach. I won the fourth Premier League winner's title, which, along with 5 national championship titles, makes it my 9th title overall. I am glad that we managed to find time to compete in domestic races due to the tight schedule of international competitions.

I am satisfied with the 90th place, but I know I can do much better, so our goal next season is to enter the top 60 in the world. And after that, to collect points for participation in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games - said Lejla Tanović.
