Extracted money for betting using fake Facebook profiles

Split police have reported a 26-year-old from the Zadar area for multiple criminal offenses of computer fraud and unauthorized use of personal data, reports the Patria news agency.

They state that he harmed two individuals by creating fake Facebook profiles of their friends. He asked them to photograph their credit cards, and then used the obtained data for payments at a betting shop. Thus, he caused damage of 1,100 kuna to one person and two thousand kuna to another, the police point out.

From the account of one of the victims, he also attempted to pay a larger amount, but the card had already been blocked.

The suspect was handed over to the detention supervisor, and he is expected to be questioned at the State Attorney's Office. It is suspected that these two victims are not the only ones, but that more people have been defrauded.
