Lars-Gunnar Wigemark new Special Representative and Head of the EU Delegation to BiH

The Foreign Affairs Council today appointed Lars-Gunnar Wigemark as the European Union's Special Representative in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Also, Mr. Wigemark will assume the position of Head of the European Union Delegation to BiH, reports the BiH news agency Patria.

Lars-Gunnar Wigemark currently serves as the Head of the European Union Delegation to Pakistan and has over thirty years of experience in Swedish and European diplomatic services. He has worked in diplomatic missions, including Moscow and Washington, and on a wide range of issues, including as Head of the Security Policy Unit in the European Commission and in development and management cooperation.

In this role, Lars-Gunnar Wigemark succeeds Peter Sorensen, who held it from September 1, 2011. He will assume his duties in Bosnia and Herzegovina on March 1, 2015.

On the occasion of this appointment, the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission Federica Mogherini stated:

- The European Union is committed to supporting Bosnia and Herzegovina on its European path. Mr. Wigemark's expertise will be an important contribution to our engagement in BiH as well as to the EU's foreign affairs - it is stated.

Peter Sorensen congratulated the Swedish diplomat on his arrival in BiH and assumption of duties on his Twitter profile.
