Lagumdžija on Nermin Nikšić: I won't spoil the celebratory atmosphere, he knows what I think of him and the people around him

(Patria) - The Congress of the Social Democratic Party of BiH (SDP BiH) will be held on July 5 at the Hills Hotel in Sarajevo, and the most likely scenario is that the Congress delegates will extend the mandate of president Nermin Nikšić once again.

Before the Congress, a session of the SDP Main Board should also be held, where delegates for the Congress are to be approved. It is expected that the extension of Nikšić's mandate will be proposed at the Congress itself, although this was already done in June 2023. Since then, no elections have been held within the SDP, and voices about elections for the SDP president have suddenly fallen silent.

Former SDP BiH president Zlatko Lagumdžija, who is no longer a member of this party today, commented on the situation in the SDP on Jutro za sve on BHT.

"I truly believe that for the future of BiH, a strong party like the SDP should be is necessary, a multi-ethnic party that is both civic and national, in which people are comfortable with their identity as Bosnians and Herzegovinians, and with their identity as Bosniaks, Serbs, Croats and Others, Catholics, Muslims, whatever, and which is simultaneously an integrating political force of BiH, and BiH needs such a force. The SDP still has a lot to do to become such a force," Lagumdžija said in a conversation with Zvonko Komšić.

When Komšić asked if Nermin Nikšić should step down as president, Lagumdžija answered with a counter-question.

"Do you really expect me to answer that question for you?" but he answered anyway.

"It is probably known to everyone, including Nermin Nikšić, what I think about the people around him and about him, but that is not for a morning program, and especially not an answer for a celebratory atmosphere," said Lagumdžija, who congratulated the 33rd anniversary of BiH's admission to the UN.

Incidentally, Lagumdžija was appointed Ambassador of BiH to the UN at the beginning of 2023, upon the proposal of Denis Bećirović.
