Lagumdžija: Trust in the judiciary has been damaged, we must change that

(Patria) - The new president of the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council of BiH, Halil Lagumdžija, addressed the public for the first time after being elected to this position. He pointed out that he has been a judge for 25 years and that he has never addressed the media, because that is how judges should work.

"It was a mistake that I did not address you yesterday, and I hope that something similar will not happen in the future," said the newly elected president of the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council of BiH, Halil Lagumdžija, at the beginning of his address.

"I will ask you not to pressure us too much and to give us the opportunity to breathe, you will have us at your disposal enough," Lagumdžija asked journalists.

"I have long-term experience and enthusiasm, I will try to improve the judiciary, and trust in the judiciary has been damaged," said Lagumdžija.

He believes that he will have the support of all Council members.

He added that the fight against corruption and organized crime will continue.

"The adoption of amendments to the Law on the HJPC is crucial for the continuation of work. We will insist on the publication of asset declarations. There is a lot of work ahead of us. With the support of Council members, I expect that we will achieve success and take a step closer to European standards and the citizens of BiH," concluded Lagumdžija.

He believes that it is necessary to implement expert recommendations, and the adoption of amendments to the Law on the HJPC is necessary.

"Verification of asset declarations is something I will insist on," Lagumdžija stated, adding that there is a lot of work and activities, procedures ahead of them, but with the support of the Council and the contribution of the judicial community, he expects success and a step closer to EU standards and the citizens of BiH."
