Lagumdžija congratulates Mogherini: The right person for the right job

Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs Federica Mogherini has been appointed as the High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy of the European Union. She succeeds Catherine Ashton, writes the BiH news agency Patria.

Congratulations to Mogherini were also sent by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of BiH, Zlatko Lagumdžija, who believes this is excellent news for us in BiH.

- We believe that in the position of High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, she will continue to support and promote the policy of integrating the Western Balkan countries into the EU. I wish Minister Federica Mogherini much success in resolving problems and challenges in turbulent and unpredictable global developments, convinced that she is the right person for the right job, capable of responding to the challenges that lie before us - stated Minister Lagumdžija in his congratulatory message.

We remind you that Mogherini visited BiH at the end of July and attended the presentation of the Growth and Employment Agreement. At that time, she expressed hope for the changes BiH needs.

 - Italy showed its solidarity during the floods in BiH, but we have not forgotten the February protests and the citizens' demands either – Mogherini said, adding that citizens would raise their voices in the upcoming elections.

As Mogherini emphasized at the time, given that Italy took over the EU presidency at the beginning of July, the Western Balkans is a strategic priority of that presidency.

- The problem of economic growth is not only in this country; the whole of Europe has been facing changes for a year. European citizens want change. The floods in BiH have affected the economic picture, so foreign investors, considering all this, are not ready to invest in BiH - Mogherini said, adding that BiH needs to send a signal, namely acts that can be valued in Brussels.

Mogherini took over as the head of Italian diplomacy in February. In August last year, she was elected as the chair of the Italian delegation in the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, and she was also a member of the delegation in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk will be appointed as the successor to Herman Van Rompuy as head of the European Council.
