Cuban cancer vaccine to arrive in RS?

After Serbia, the new Cuban Cimavax vaccine for the treatment of lung cancer could also be available to patients in RS. If it proves to be an adequate drug in Serbia, the University Clinical Centre of RS will send an initiative for the procurement of this vaccine, the Patria News Agency reports.

-We are also awaiting the first studies for Cimavax. I know that a study is being conducted on 1,000 patients in England, as I received this information from the head of the scientific research centre from Cuba. We should not be overly optimistic, but we should also look with hope, because any progress in the treatment of lung cancer will be a great step forward. For all other types of cancer, there has been some development, but for lung cancer, the period has not changed much, said Mirko Stanetić, Director of the University Clinical Centre of RS.

The Ministry of Health agrees. If the new vaccine is successful in treating this deadly disease, they will have no objection to it being used in RS.

-We are monitoring what is happening with the Cuban vaccine and we see that it has significance in the treatment of a certain number of patients. We will certainly not be against the vaccine being used here as well, said Dragan Bogdanić, Minister of Health and Social Protection of RS.

The procurement of the new drug would be realised with the approval of the Agency for Medicines and Medical Devices of BiH, which states that they have not yet had any requests from the manufacturer for its registration. However, even if the drug is not registered and is needed for the treatment of a certain number of patients, there would be a possibility of an emergency import, approved by the relevant ministries, ATV reported.
