Cuba celebrates 60th anniversary of revolution

HAVANA, (Patria) - On the first day of the New Year, Cuba marked the 60th anniversary of the revolution, and former president Raul Castro gave a speech at the cemetery where his brother and leader of the Cuban revolution, Fidel Castro, is buried.

A ceremony was also held in the city of Santiago, the first city liberated by Fidel Castro's guerrilla in 1959, but no foreign guests attended the ceremony.

The anniversary of the revolution coincided with the official assumption of office by radical right-winger Jair Bolsonaro in Brazil, and world media report that Brazil, like Argentina, Chile, and Peru, has turned to the right.

As for Cuba, for the first time since 1976, a member of the Castro family is not at the head of the state, after Miguel Diaz-Canel took over that duty in April.

Numerous events were held across Cuba, where citizens stated that they would never give up the ideas of Fidel Castro and Ernesto Che Guevara.
