Crisis Staff of the Ministry of Health of Sarajevo Canton and the Institute call on the population to get vaccinated and receive the third 'booster' dose

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - After the infection caused by the omicron strain of Covid-19 began to spread worldwide, experts are calling for vaccination against this disease.

In people with weakened immune systems and the elderly, omicron can cause a more severe clinical picture, and the spread of the virus itself will also lead to an increased number of patients in healthcare facilities, i.e., pressure on hospitals.

The latest British research shows that from the first dose of the vaccine, the risk of hospitalization is reduced by 52% compared to unvaccinated individuals. After the second dose, the risk reduction is 72% within 24 weeks (six months) of the second dose. And after the third 'booster' dose, the risk is reduced by 88% two weeks after vaccination.

The Crisis Staff of the Ministry of Health of Sarajevo Canton and the Institute for Public Health of Sarajevo Canton call on the population to get vaccinated.

All those for whom three months have passed since the second dose, and if they have not previously had Covid-19, i.e., six months for individuals who have been vaccinated with two doses and have recovered from Covid-19, can receive the third dose.

Regarding mortality in Sarajevo Canton, 92% of those who died were not vaccinated.
