(Patria) - Heavy rainfall has already caused problems in numerous cities in Bosnia and Herzegovina. In some places, a state of emergency has been declared. The situation is critical in Ključ and Sanski Most, where the level of the Sana River is constantly rising. According to footage shared by citizens, water has already spilled over in some areas. In the settlement of Skucani Vakuf, the right bank is cut off due to flooding that destroyed a makeshift bridge. On that section, the road is closed. Emergency services are on the ground.

Water level of the Una River in Bihać rising

In Bihać, the water level of the Una River is rising, and civil protection is delivering sandbags to affected citizens. Authorities are warning of caution.

Several households evacuated in Laktaši

Several households have been evacuated in Laktaši, where a state of emergency has been declared due to heavy rainfall and river flooding, said Boris Trninić, acting director of the Republika Srpska Civil Protection Administration.

Trninić said that the Vrbas River is rising and that there are isolated overflows onto agricultural land.

He emphasized that the Civil Protection water rescue team is stationed in the Banja Luka area to assist with the evacuation of the population if necessary.

According to him, the Civil Protection teams have focused on Banja Luka, Laktaši, and Doboj.

The Republika Srpska Civil Protection has been gathering information on the situation on the ground since this morning, and so far, Laktaši and Modriča have declared a state of emergency, while other places are managing to cope with the increased water levels at the local level, said Željko Janković of the Republika Srpska Civil Protection.

Prijedor declares first level of preparedness

The first level of flood protection preparedness has been declared in the Prijedor area, after the water levels of the Sana and Gomjenica rivers rose by more than two meters due to heavy rainfall and exceeded the level for regular flood defense, and rain continues to fall.

Prijedor Mayor Slobodan Javor said that the Sana River has overflowed into unprotected areas in Tukovi, Raškovac, and Brezičani, but that no flooded buildings have been reported so far.

Duty teams are on the ground monitoring the situation.

Possible river overflow in the Bijeljina area

In the Bijeljina settlement of Donja Čađavica, a torrential stream has partially overflowed, but it currently does not threaten traffic on the Bijeljina-Brčko main road, the city's Civil Protection announced.

In the last 24 hours, 19.1 liters of rain per square meter fell in the Bijeljina area, and given the new heavier rainfall, river overflows may occur.

"The population has been warned, especially in settlements along river courses, to be extremely vigilant, prepared, and to take timely preventive measures to protect property that could be flooded," the statement said.

The water levels of smaller torrential streams are also rising.

Water levels in the Kozarska Dubica area below the level of regular flood defenses

The water levels of the Una and Sava rivers in the Kozarska Dubica area are rising but remain below the level at which regular flood defense measures are declared.

The water level of the Una at 5:00 AM this morning was 313 centimeters, and the Sava was at 686 centimeters.

The level of the Una is rising by 13 centimeters per hour, and the Sava by six centimeters.

Kozarska Dubica Municipality Mayor Igor Savković toured the area with associates last night and said that the water levels of the Una and Sava are being continuously monitored, and that there is no cause for panic for now.

Classes suspended in Čelinac and Derventa

Classes have been suspended in all schools in the Čelinac area due to the increased water level of the Vrbanja River, the Municipal Administration announced.

The "Neven" kindergarten has also been closed since this morning.

Due to the increased water level of the Ukrina River, which is currently under regular flood defense, classes are being suspended in all schools in the Derventa area for safety reasons, BHRT reports.

Second maximum level of preparedness in Modriča

The second maximum level of preparedness has been declared in Modriča due to the Bosna River and its tributaries. Teams spent the entire night on the ground.

Torrents have caused problems for households. Water has entered basement rooms. All teams for assisting the population are on the ground.

A warning to the population has also been issued by the Doboj City Administration, where relevant services are also on standby, although, as they claim, there is no reason for panic.

The Doboj Police Administration appeals to the public not to spread misinformation on social networks about the water level of the Bosna River and the danger to citizens' property and lives.

Water levels in Sarajevo Canton decreasing

Water levels in the Sarajevo Canton area are decreasing. The Operational Center of the Cantonal Civil Protection Administration said there were no reports of emergencies during the night and that the situation is calming down according to data.

According to this morning's measurements, the Željeznica River is about 25 centimeters lower than yesterday morning, and the water level of the Bosna River at the same measuring point in the Sarajevo field is about 70 centimeters lower.

Bosna River minimally rising from Zavidovići towards the north of ZDK

There were no major problems overnight in the Zenica-Doboj Canton (ZDK) area caused by rain and yesterday's sudden increase in river water levels in that canton, the duty officer at the Operational Center of the ZDK Cantonal Civil Protection Administration confirmed to Fena.

Although data from the field is still being collected, it is evident that the Bosna River in Zenica has almost completely returned to its riverbed.

Entrance to Maglaj closed, underpasses flooded
