Kreka miners give 20 percent of their earnings to colleagues from the Šikulje mine

Federal Prime Minister Nermin Nikšić and the director of Elektroprivreda BiH, Elvedin Grabovica, visited the „Šikulje“ mine today, which during the floods in May of this year, which affected BiH, suffered damage of around 25 million marks, reports the Bosnian news agency Patria.

The damage caused by the floods at this mine, which employs around 800 workers, could increase by an additional 25 million marks by the New Year, as the management will not be able to achieve the planned production, which will significantly reduce the mine's revenues.

Prime Minister Nikšić said that the government will do everything to restart production at Šikulje as soon as possible, and that they are in daily contact with the mine's representatives.

- We are looking for the best solution for this collective - said Nikšić.

Elvedin Grabovica, director of Elektroprivreda BiH, said that a plan for the remediation of the damage at the Šikulje mine already exists. Its implementation will begin as soon as experts can reach the machines that remained underwater. Grabovica said that the power system is not threatened by the halt in operations at the Šikulje mine, and that this will not lead to an increase in electricity prices.

Some of the miners from the flooded mine have received new assignments at this collective, some are on annual leave, and some have been sent home on so-called standby until the situation at Šikulje stabilizes.

Today it was confirmed that workers from the „Kreka“ mine will give up 20 percent of their earnings in favor of their colleagues from the „Šikulje“ mine, thus ensuring that miners from the flooded mine receive their earnings in the coming months, amounting to 80 percent of their salary, reports Patria.
