Krawczyk: BiH should learn from the mistakes of other countries, which will speed up its path to the EU

Poland had candidate status for 12 years before joining the EU. Bosnia and Herzegovina is only at the beginning of that path, said Polish Ambassador Andrzej Krawczyk, reports the BiH news agency Patria.

He met with the president of HDZ 1990, Martin Raguž, with whom he discussed the current political situation in BiH.

Krawczyk shared Poland's experiences in the process of Euro-Atlantic integration with Raguž. He said that Poland's path from gaining candidate status to fulfilling the membership conditions was long and arduous, and that BiH also needs to take serious measures to join the European Union countries.

- BiH should learn from the mistakes of other countries in the process of European integration, not repeat the same mistakes. Poland's experiences can significantly help BiH, due to the similarities of the countries and the processes of transition and transformation from a one-party system towards a democratic system, which both countries have gone through - said Krawczyk.

Raguž agreed that Bosnia and Herzegovina should and can learn from its neighbors. He recalled that after World War II, despite all the horrors of war and destruction that Poland experienced, the people of this country found the strength to extend a hand of reconciliation to their neighbors, in order to prevent the possibility of future conflict.

- German-Polish friendship, which has significantly contributed to the development of both countries, should be an example for Bosnia and Herzegovina as well. Good neighborly relations, true friendship, and cooperation can contribute to the creation of regional stability and the creation of preconditions for a better and higher quality standard of living for the Balkan countries - said the president of HDZ 1990, reports NAP.
