Kovačević: I want to preserve the municipality of Novi Grad and provide a better quality of life for citizens

A guest on FACE TV with Senad Hadžifejzović was doc. dr. Goran Kovačević, candidate for the mayor of Novi Grad municipality, who very precisely presented his work program and the problems he will tackle if the citizens of the most populous municipality in BiH elect him as mayor, writes the BiH news agency Patria.

Hadžifejzović, introducing Kovačević, said that he is a public figure, given that he is a professor at the Faculty of Criminal Justice, Criminology and Security Studies and an internationally recognized expert.

Kovačević stated that his program will focus on the fundamental issue: enabling the citizens of the Novi Grad municipality to live better and higher quality lives.

When asked about the situation in Novi Grad, Kovačević said that it has come to a point where in the 21st century, some settlements lack water and sewage systems, and there is a landfill that poses a danger to citizens...

- We are talking about things that should have been resolved at the end of the last century. The health center was non-operational for three years, and one part was opened a few days ago.

When asked if it is true that the budget of the Novi Grad Municipality has increased by millions of KM, Kovačević said that it has, but the rent for entrepreneurs and private individuals has increased by 2,000%, a lot of land has been sold for the construction of residential buildings, and the budget distribution is different...

- I am a person who wants to preserve the municipality of Novi Grad, and for it to be owned by the citizens – said Kovačević, stating that his personal motivation is the progress of the municipality where he has lived for 34 years.

- I am fulfilled personally, professionally, and materially. My motivation is for the municipality to progress socially and for the standard of living of the citizens to increase. It is important for a family to have the means for a normal and honest existence. I am not a party man; the party did not create me. The most competent staff will work with me – said Kovačević, inviting citizens to vote for him if they want a prosperous and liberal municipality.

Work Program

Kovačević also explained his work program, and one of the first things is an employment incubator.

- This has been implemented all over the world. A safe zone for business development where the municipality participates both in terms of personnel and finances. I have encountered thousands of ideas from people who do not know how to start a business.

The program also lists the basic life needs that the municipality should fulfill for its citizens. These include provisions for winter, care for pensioners and the elderly, 24-hour service, construction or renovation of school buildings, kindergartens, construction of sports fields and halls, educational centers, building insulation...

He particularly addressed the youth, who make up a large part of the municipality's population. Around 30,000 young people in this municipality face challenges of gambling, alcohol, and drug use.

Kovačević specifically highlighted the status of pensioners in Novi Grad, stating that the municipality should be at their service 24 hours a day.

- A service that will actively work to provide assistance 24 hours a day if needed. Even proactively reaching out to call someone. The municipality is that level of state authority that would, in a way, finance its citizens and ensure them a better quality of life.

Kovačević believes that a major problem for this municipality is the garbage dump, and it should be relocated because all the garbage from the city of Sarajevo is disposed of at the landfill in Buča Potok.
