Košarac: Trgovska Gora is out of the question, confrontation with Croatia in Geneva in May

(Patria) - Trgovska Gora must not be a location for the storage or disposal of radioactive waste and spent nuclear fuel; documentation for the confrontation with Croatia in Geneva in May is being carefully prepared, stated the Deputy Chairman of the Council of Ministers of BiH, Staša Košarac.

"Our arguments are the result of research conducted in the territory of the Federation of BiH and Republika Srpska, as well as credible consultations with an international law firm from Paris," Košarac emphasized.

Košarac stated that Croatia, in the case of Trgovska Gora, among other things, violates the Espoo and Aarhus Conventions, about which competent authorities have been informed, along with evidence and arguments, with the aim of proving that Čerkezovac at Trgovska Gora does not meet any criteria for the safe storage or disposal of radioactive waste.

"The law is on our side," Košarac stated.

Košarac noted that a confrontation with Croatia is expected in May before the Espoo Convention Committee in Geneva regarding the Trgovska Gora case.

"Our team, composed of representatives of all competent institutions in BiH, together with the international law firm 'Laborde Law' from Paris, is maximally engaged and carefully preparing the argumentation," Košarac stated.

He stated that based on legal arguments, they want to prove that Čerkezovac at Trgovska Gora does not meet any criteria for the safe storage or disposal of radioactive waste and spent nuclear fuel.

He also added that the competent Committee of the Aarhus Convention has been informed that Croatia has violated this convention, which guarantees citizens the right to access information, participate in decision-making, and judicial protection in environmental matters.

Košarac stated that at the same time, a recommendation from the Committee was requested regarding Croatia's compliance with the Aarhus Convention for the disputed project at Trgovska Gora.

According to him, by activating international mechanisms and conventions, they want to internationalize this problem and bring it into the focus of competent international bodies.

"I especially want to express my gratitude to the governments and competent ministries of RS and FBiH, as well as all members of the Expert Team, local structures, non-governmental organizations, and the academic community, who are making an immeasurable contribution to our fight against the construction of the disputed facility at Trgovska Gora. We will not give up," Košarac stated on Instagram.
