Košarac and Cormack Discuss Membership in the World Trade Organization

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations of BiH Staša Košarac today received the First Deputy Assistant Secretary of State of the United States of America, Maureen Cormack, who is visiting BiH.

The meeting discussed the economic and political situation in BiH. The interlocutors exchanged views on the negative impact of the coronavirus on the economy in BiH, and expressed concern that the further development and spread of this virus could jeopardize business relations and contacts between companies and institutions in BiH.

During today's meeting, the development of the energy sector in BiH was also discussed. In this context, it was emphasized that it is necessary to adapt BiH's legislation to the EU acquis communautaire, with a focus on meeting the conditions of the Third Energy Package.

The interlocutors stressed the need for BiH to become a member of the World Trade Organization as soon as possible, and stated that a decision on the quality of petroleum liquid fuels needs to be adopted.

Minister Košarac and the First Deputy Assistant Secretary of State of the USA, Cormack, also touched upon the political relations in BiH following the latest decision of the Constitutional Court of BiH regarding the status of agricultural land in Republika Srpska. Minister Košarac said that the issue of the Constitutional Court of BiH is political from the aspect of the dissatisfaction of the two constituent peoples in BiH with the functioning of this institution, as well as the presence of foreign judges in the Constitutional Court of BiH.
