SARAJEVO, (Patria) - The situation regarding the spread of coronavirus is escalating, and schools and faculties have been closed in Republika Srpska.

The crisis headquarters of the Ministry of Health of Sarajevo Canton has issued new measures to further monitor the situation. In line with the change in the epidemiological situation in the world, the European region, and Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as the assessment of the epidemiological risk, public gatherings in Sarajevo Canton where more than 250 participants are expected to attend are cancelled, in accordance with the public gathering regulation.

As Patria learns from diplomatic sources, foreign organizations, embassies, and the EU Delegation are already preparing employees for remote work in case quarantine is imposed. Laptops with the necessary applications are being rapidly prepared, and an additional number of laptops have been procured.

The Chairman of the Council of Ministers of BiH, Zoran Tegeltija, spoke today in Sarajevo with the Prime Ministers of Republika Srpska, Radovan Višković, and the Federation of BiH, Fadil Novalić, about the current situation regarding the outbreak of coronavirus.

At the meeting, which was also attended by the Ministers in the Council of Ministers - Civil Affairs Ankica Gudeljević and Security Fahrudin Radončić - additional measures were discussed with the aim of preventing the spread and suppressing the infectious disease Covid-19. A recommendation was given to the Minister of Security to introduce a temporary ban on entry into BiH for foreign nationals coming from areas with intensive coronavirus transmission. This applies to persons who have stayed in Italy, as well as in certain provinces of the People's Republic of China, South Korea, and Iran.

Slovenia is the second country after Austria to decide to close its border with Italy. The decision was announced on its Twitter account by Prime Minister Marjan Šarec.

Austria earlier today banned entry into the country for Italian citizens unless they have special medical approval. Austria had previously issued a travel security warning level 6, advising its citizens not to travel to Italy, but Austrian citizens will be able to enter the country on the condition that they spend 14 days in quarantine.
