Corridor 5C: Tunnel through Prenj to save 300 million euros

The construction of the Corridor 5C section from Konjic to Mostar North could be cheaper by as much as 300 million euros, instead of the current 700 million euros planned for the construction of Corridor 5C on this section, reports the BH News Agency Patria.

The Federal Government accepted the Information on the need to optimize and increase the feasibility of the route on the Konjic - Mostar North section, submitted by the state company Autoceste Federacije BiH, which states that by breaking through the Prenj mountain, i.e., shortening this section by about 18 kilometers, the state could save as much as 300 million euros from the construction of this section.

Ensad Karić, director of Autoceste Federacije BiH, told the Patria agency that their assumptions are that by using the natural terrain advantages and new technological achievements in tunnel construction for the breakthrough through the Prenj mountain, the Corridor 5C route from Konjic to Mostar North would be shortened by 18 kilometers, which would result in savings of over 300 million euros.

- These are our rough assumptions - said Karić.

- We will immediately proceed with a more detailed analysis, and within a few months, we will have precise indicators of how much can be saved on this section - he added.

If the analyses show that it is possible to save on this section, the spatial planning for this section will have to be amended. However, Karić believes that nothing should be an obstacle. The Federal Parliament should support such a decision, as savings of several hundred million euros would mean a lot to our country, writes Patria.
