The owner of the retail chain „Hoše komerc“, Izet Bozalija, who is also the owner of the brands „Bony“ and „Merka“, told the Bosnian news agency Patria that it is noticeable that retail chains in Bosnia and Herzegovina, which are domestically owned, are performing increasingly better.
This directly contributes, he says, to a stronger development of the domestic economy and the stabilisation of the country. Bozalija said that after the closure of the Mercator retail chain, a large number of their customers switched to domestic retail chains, and did not stay with the new owner of Konzum either.
He personally has no problems with Konzum, but a large number of our producers do. Bosnian products are not getting adequate space on their shelves – Bozalija told NAP and added:
But, I think these things are now improving. Our producers will be in an increasingly better position. Konzum no longer has the turnover it once had. It is much smaller. First of all, this is due to the strengthening of Bingo, but also other domestic retail chains. Besides that, the awareness of our customers is beginning to awaken. Bosnian customers are increasingly demanding domestic products.
Bozalija emphasises that if the citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina show just a little more patriotism towards domestic retail chains, and start supporting the domestic economy even more strongly, foreign supermarkets will no longer be in a superior position as before, and that will be a great driving force for the entire Bosnia and Herzegovina, NAP writes.
