55 facilities for children and youth stay, accommodation and education inspected in Sarajevo Canton, irregularities found

In the past two months, inspections of preschool and school institutions, as well as student dormitories in Sarajevo Canton, were the subject of inspections by sanitary inspectors of the Cantonal Administration for Inspection Affairs. Special attention was paid to the supervision of kitchens and canteens in these institutions, and a certain number of catering facilities located in their immediate vicinity were also inspected, announced the KUIP, as reported by Patria.

The inspections covered a total of 55 facilities, including seven kindergartens, 32 primary and 12 secondary schools, as well as three student dormitories and one center for children with special needs.

After identifying deficiencies related to poor sanitary-technical and hygienic conditions, inadequate furniture, lack of means and equipment for maintaining personal hygiene, and in a small number of cases, food of inadequate quality, inspectors issued 38 decisions to remedy the deficiencies and five misdemeanor orders.

The issued decisions, among other things, ordered the subjects of supervision to maintain the facilities and premises, and to adapt damaged and dilapidated parts of the facilities. It was also noted that laboratory control of food health safety is regularly carried out in accordance with legal regulations, that employed staff regularly undergo carrier testing, and that mandatory preventive disinfection is carried out according to a regular plan by authorized companies.

These inspections in facilities for the stay, accommodation and education of children and youth were conducted with the aim of controlling the implementation of measures to eliminate the risk of infectious diseases, in order to provide preschool and school children and youth with optimal conditions for growth and development.

The conclusion, among other things, is that in the coming period, it is urgently necessary to adopt by-laws that will decisively establish the minimum sanitary-technical conditions for facilities of this type. We note that the Rulebook on the nutrition of children-students in preschool institutions, primary and secondary schools in the Sarajevo Canton is also in the preparatory phase.
