Organized by NGO "Volunteers and Friends of the Konjic Region" and Bosnian language and literature professor Dušica Čukla, with the presence of students from the Mixed Secondary School Konjic, the 94th anniversary of the birth of Konjic native Zulfikar Zuko Džumhur, a distinguished artist, writer, and cartoonist, was marked by laying flowers and paying respects at his grave, reports the BiH news agency Patria.
Due to his versatility, genius, and simplicity, Zuko is said to be the last Renaissance creator from this region. He traveled the world his entire life, wrote and spoke, explored, connected people, and broke down barriers.
Writer Miljenko Jergović wrote about Zuko Džumhur that "there are few writers who, over their human lifespan, have lived a thousand previous years and who, besides their own homeland, have had countless homelands.".
- There is no such thing as a good person, that is a delusion of bad people. A good person is an artificial creation, the result of a difficult internal struggle with oneself. If that dubious phenomenon, which you call a good person, were to at least slightly open the windows of their inner world, you would see that within all of us, more or less, is the same mud, made of similar shortcomings. Therefore, I would rather speak of a wise person than a good one. Be wise so as not to be bad. A wise person constantly works on themselves, removes their bad qualities, and at one point realizes that this polishing is never enough, that a bad character is our spiritual weed, you weed it out, and it resists, it grows and grows. Neither you nor it give up in this endless weeding. You can never eliminate your flaws, but you must never stop eradicating them. And if you are persistent, if you do not give up, then after decades of conscientious work, it may happen that you see a smiling and calm self in the mirror. And perhaps that is the key. If you eradicate enough of your evils, if you somehow bring them under control, then serenity emerges from beneath them. A smile appears. The most beautiful sight on a person is their smile. You stretch these jaws of yours from ear to ear and say to yourself: "Well, damn it, maybe I didn't turn out so bad after all..." - Džumhur said on one occasion.
Džumhur died on 27.11.1989 in Herceg-Novi, and two days later was buried in the Konjic city cemetery Musala, next to his father Abdusalam and mother Vasvija. The writer, painter, screenwriter, cartoonist, globetrotter, finished gymnasium in Belgrade, high school in Sarajevo in 1939, and the Academy of Fine Arts in Belgrade. He left behind 10 written books, more than 10,000 caricatures, wrote screenplays for three feature films and several short films, designed 35 stage sets for theater, and for the last 10 years worked at TV Sarajevo as a screenwriter and host of the series "Hodoljublje" (Wanderlust).
