KONJIC: Flagpole and flag of Bosnia and Herzegovina erected on Kom, a strategic point of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina during the aggression

(Patria) - A group of enthusiasts, lovers of the natural beauty of the city of Konjic and its rich cultural and historical heritage, successfully carried out the action of installing a ten-meter high flagpole and the flag of Bosnia and Herzegovina on Kom – a peak where the remains of the medieval town of the same name are located, first mentioned in the "Chronicle" of Priest Dukljanin from the 12th century.

This is an exceptionally valuable monument of culture and history of Konjic and the upper Neretva River area, belonging to the local community of Glavatičevo. The fact that Kom was the administrative, military, economic, and cultural center of the Kom Župa (county) in the 14th century, ruled by the medieval Bosnian noble family Sanković, whose feudal possessions extended to the sea near Dubrovnik, speaks to the significance of the site and the need to promote centuries of Bosnian-Herzegovinian statehood.

Furthermore, during the last aggression against Bosnia and Herzegovina in the 1990s, Kom, due to its location, terrain configuration, underground tunnels, and caves, was a strategically important point under the control of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Therefore, it is all the more reason to display the symbols of statehood precisely at that location and to continue passing on the story of Kom, its role, and significance to future generations.

In the presence of the action participants and with the intonation of the anthem, the flag was ceremoniously raised by a member of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, retired non-commissioned officer of the Armed Forces of BiH, Osman Jazvin.

Members of the informal group of citizens originating from Glavatičevo, who led and coordinated the action, thank everyone who helped in its realization through financial support, the participants for the demanding task of carrying the flagpole over inaccessible terrain, and the members of GSS Prenj, Konjic, and the member of GSS Ljubuški for their selfless engagement in securing the action and providing technical support.

By erecting the flagpole with the flag of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the locality with the remains of the old town walls of Kom symbolically opens its doors again to all people of goodwill, researchers, archaeologists, adventurers, mountaineers... all travelers who tread the historical lands of Bosnia and Herzegovina!
