SDA Congress in Sarajevo: Over 1,300 Delegates Vote for Izetbegović

SARAJEVO, (Patria) – The 7th Congress of the Party of Democratic Action will be held today in the Zetra hall, where the president of the SDA will be elected. The only candidate is the current president Bakir Izetbegović. The 7th SDA Congress will be attended by 1,340 delegates, and since there is only one candidate, the Statute stipulates that the vote will be public.

According to the agenda, there will be 12 introductory speeches, including on the work of the SDA between the two congresses, the Proposed Statute of the SDA, the Proposed Resolution on the principles and goals of foreign policy, EU and NATO integration, the Proposed Resolution on the rule of law, security and defense. The Proposed Resolution on constitutional reform and electoral legislation, the Proposed Resolution on policy in the field of demography and family protection, and the Proposed Program Declaration will be considered. According to the Program Declaration, the SDA advocates for the "Republic of BiH", the establishment of the Supreme Court of BiH, and the improvement of the rule of law.

In addition to the election of the president of the SDA, members of the Main Board, vice-presidents of the party, the Ethics and Supervisory Board will also be elected.

Amendments to the Statute provide for a term limit of three consecutive terms as well as holding multiple functions within the party. Thus, one person will be able to perform a maximum of two functions. A greater number of women in the party Presidency and Main Board is also envisaged, as well as opening the SDA to members of other constituent peoples, and rejuvenating the party leadership.
