(Patria) - BiH Minister of Foreign Affairs Elmedin Konaković reacted to the statement of the Israeli Ambassador to Serbia Yahel Vilan, who denied the genocide in Srebrenica and stated that Israel has never accepted this qualification.
"As the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina, I feel it is my duty to strongly oppose the shameful statement of the Israeli Ambassador to Serbia Yahel Vilan, who stated that ‘Israel has never accepted the crime in Srebrenica being called genocide’. Such statements are not only deeply wrong, but also offensive to the victims and survivors of the genocide in Srebrenica, as well as to all those who uphold truth and justice in the international community.
Let me remind Ambassador Vilan, the comparison between the Holocaust and the genocide in Srebrenica is not a competition in suffering, but an acknowledgment that every victim of crimes against humanity deserves equal honor and justice. Diminishing the crime in Srebrenica under the guise of ‘importance of terminology’ is not only intellectually dishonest, but also morally questionable.
Mr. Vilan, your statements are not only irresponsible, but also an insult to the fundamental values that every diplomat should not only cherish, but should also promote. You are a disgrace to diplomacy and a disgrace to humanity", stated Konaković.
He emphasized that Bosnia and Herzegovina will continue to protect the truth about Srebrenica and the genocide with a fearless heart, ready to oppose anyone who tries to diminish or deny this tragic truth of our recent history.
