Konaković calls for Schmidt's intervention: Krišto is breaking the law, let her enable deputies to propose the BiH Security Minister

(Patria) - The position of the BiH Minister of Security has been vacant since the end of January when Nenad Nešić resigned from custody, and the Chairperson of the Council of Ministers of BiH, Borjana Krišto, dismissed him.

Since Nešić's arrest, Krišto has authorized the Deputy Minister of Security, Ivica Bošnjak (HDZ BiH), to lead the Ministry. In early March, she submitted a proposal for the appointment of Goran Selak from the SNSD quota for procedure, but he requested that the candidacy be withdrawn.

From then until today, Krišto has not submitted a new proposal, although she had a request from several deputies to send the name of Nebojša Vukanović, president of the List for Justice and Order, for procedure. However, Krišto ignored this request, following the stance of HDZ BiH while talks about the new parliamentary majority were ongoing, and after Trojka initiated the removal of SNSD from power.

In the meantime, HDZ BiH also held a meeting with the opposition from RS, but Čović changed his mind and recently stated that they did not adhere to what was agreed upon.

On Friday, May 9, a new agreement was signed between Trojka from FBiH, NES, BHI, Naprijed, and the troika from RS (SDS, PDP, LNR), and the signature was also put by the independent delegate in the House of Peoples of the BiH Parliament, Zlatko Mijatović. HDZ BiH did not attend this meeting or sign the agreement.

Given the situation with the headless SIPA, and the avoidance of SNSD ministers to appoint an acting official, thereby participating in the attack on the constitutional order carried out by the RS authorities, Trojka demands that Krišto propose a new candidate for the BiH Minister of Security.

The president of Narod i Pravda stated on Face TV on Friday evening that the High Representative Christian Schmidt has a simple solution that fully resolves the issue of the functionality of the Council of Ministers of BiH, if HDZ BiH continues to delay.

“Chairperson Krišto is not submitting the Minister of Security for procedure and is thereby breaking the law because she has an obligation to submit it within a certain period. If that part of the law were amended in Parliament or by a decision of the High Representative, allowing a deputy to do so, we would unblock the appointment process of the minister. This is a simple, elegant solution that should be resolved even without this situation. Why shouldn't deputies have the right in cases where she doesn't want to, doesn't wish to, or is prevented? I think so in the future as well,” said Konaković.

He stated that he believes this is not Krišto's individual decision, and that HDZ BiH is seeking an Election Law and using it as an alibi for nothing to be done. Konaković added that HDZ BiH proposed an unconstitutional law.

He believes that Schmidt now has strong support from both EU countries and the US to act and unblock the situation if further blockades occur.

“I would be happiest if HDZ BiH now realizes that it is most responsible for the stalemate and that it can gain points by unblocking the EU path, and if it continues to block, Schmidt should unblock it,” Konaković concluded.
