Konaković-Sloat: US gives unreserved support to reforms implementation in BiH

(Patria) - Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina Elmedin Konaković met today in Washington, during a working visit to the United States of America, with the Senior Director for Europe at the National Security Council Amanda Sloat.

The focus of the talks between Minister Konaković and Senior Director Sloat was the current political situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the region, with an emphasis on reform processes.

As stated by the Ministry's Public Relations Office, Konaković informed his interlocutor about BiH's progress on the path to the EU. He reiterated that our country remains strongly committed to European integration and is diligently working on fulfilling the 14 key priorities from the European Commission's Opinion. He expressed hope that Bosnia and Herzegovina will open EU membership negotiations by the end of 2023.

Senior Director Sloat emphasized that the United States of America gives unreserved support to the implementation of reforms in BiH as well as its European path. She expressed particular interest in the internal affairs and processes in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the region and announced an upcoming visit to our country, emphasizing that she follows all developments with special attention.

The interlocutors also exchanged views on the economic situation, global security challenges due to the war in Ukraine, regional relations, and the extension of the mandate of the EUFOR Althea mission.

Before joining the Biden administration, Senior Director for Europe at the National Security Council Amanda Sloat worked at the Brookings Institution. During the term of US President Barack Obama, she served as Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Southern European and Eurasian Affairs at the State Department and as Senior Advisor to the Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs. She also worked on the Foreign Affairs Committee of the US House of Representatives, according to the Public Relations Office of the MFA of BiH.
