Konaković with Borrell: European Commissioner called on BiH authorities for further progress in reforms

(Patria) - Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina Elmedin Konaković met on September 19, 2023, in New York, on the sidelines of the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly, with the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission Josep Borrell Fontelles, with whom he discussed the current political situation in BiH, the reform process, and the fulfillment of the 14 priorities from the European Commission's Opinion.

Minister Konaković reiterated Bosnia and Herzegovina's firm commitment to continuing to meet the conditions on the path to EU membership, and assessed that candidate status has brought significant positive progress to Bosnia and Herzegovina in fulfilling its obligations through the adoption of several important laws related to the implementation of the 14 key priorities.
Reminding that BiH's foreign policy follows the EU's foreign and security policy, he expressed hope that the EU will recognize the progress made and consider the possibility of a swift decision on opening accession negotiations. The Minister took the opportunity to express gratitude to the European Commission for the decision of June 30 to allocate 303 million for the financing of 8 key infrastructure projects in Bosnia and Herzegovina. He also thanked the EU for its continuous support of our country's European integration process.

The Minister further informed High Representative Borrell about the ongoing processes related to the harmonization of several legal solutions important for our country's EU path.

Borrell welcomed the results and progress achieved by BiH so far in fulfilling
its obligations from the European integration process and reiterated that the EU is committed to the prospect of BiH joining the EU. He called on the authorities in our country to intensify their efforts and achieve further progress in the reform processes.
