Konaković confirms Samir Avdić will be candidate for Mayor of Sarajevo

(Patria) - The constitutive session of the new convocation of the Sarajevo City Council will be held on May 27 at 10 a.m., and at that session, new leadership of the City Council should be elected, as well as the mayor and two deputy mayors of Sarajevo.

The Mayor of Sarajevo will be proposed by Narod i Pravda, and although opinions were divided between two candidates, Samir Avdić and Mirza Selimbegović, it appears that the head of NIP, Elmedin Konaković, has ended further uncertainty.

Appearing on the Mreža FTV magazine on Tuesday, he stated that the candidate will be Samir Avdić, and that Selimbegović himself told him he has no such ambition.

We recall that Avdić was the deputy mayor of Benjamina Karić, and when he took over the mandate of a municipal councilor in Novo Sarajevo, Mirza Selimbegović was elected as deputy mayor.

Konaković said that Avdić is the right candidate for the position of mayor, and that he has a built career and speaks three languages.

Even before the local elections, the Trojka in Sarajevo Canton agreed on the distribution of positions. Two deputy mayors should be offered by Naša Stranka and SDP. From SDP, we have not received confirmation that the candidates for deputies are the current mayor Predrag Puharić or the Minister of Labor and Social Policy of the Canton Sarajevo, Enda Pavić Pečenković. As for Pavić-Pečenković, a complicating factor for her could be the investigation by the Cantonal Prosecutor's Office in the "Envelope" case, in which, by amending the Rulebook on the internal organization of the Ministry regarding the required completed faculty, she enabled a certain person to move to the position of department head. That rulebook was published in the Official Gazette of the Canton Sarajevo. Pavić-Pečenković was deprived of her liberty on April 25, but the court rejected the proposal of the Cantonal Prosecutor's Office for imposing prohibition measures, and she returned to her regular activities.

Regarding the position of Deputy Mayor of Sarajevo, there have been no announcements from Naša Stranka either, but considering past practice, it is not excluded that the candidates will be known only at the constitutive session.
