Konaković: No merging of hospitals without the Sarajevo Canton Assembly

The Prime Minister of the Sarajevo Canton, Elemedin Konaković, finally commented on the story about merging, or rather closing, the General Hospital "Prim. Dr. Abdulah Nakaš", writes the Patria news agency.

- Our healthcare system is in a bad state, with waiting lists, debts of public institutions, especially the University Clinical Center Sarajevo (KCUS), and poor management for years. There are 14 public institutions, each with its own management, premises, and supervisory boards. At the same time, one waits for basic examinations in primary care and months for surgeries in tertiary healthcare. The essential list is over 80 million KM!
 
KCUS is an institution financed 2/3 by the Sarajevo Canton, and 1/3 by all other founders. The Management Board has 11 members, the Sarajevo Canton provides only two and has almost no say. The General Hospital was founded by the KS, and we appoint the management and manage the hospital.

It is located in a building managed by the Government of the Federation. There can be no merging of hospitals without the Sarajevo Canton Assembly and without the Parliament of the Federation and both governments; it is legally and technically impossible! - Konaković points out.

He further states that this would require amendments to some laws and the founding acts of KCUS.

- The Canton Government will consider integration processes in healthcare and savings in the coming weeks, which would be used to improve the provision of healthcare services and the status of some employees, nurses, technicians, and others who have low incomes but perform difficult and responsible work. These processes will be public and transparent, the representatives elected by the citizens will have the final say, and the KS Government, after receiving all analyses, will inform the public and the Canton Assembly about it - Konaković added.
