Commander of SIPA's Special Unit Finally Appointed: Enes Karić Assumes Duty from August 1st

The Special Support Unit of the State Investigation and Protection Agency (SIPA) finally has a commander, and Enes Karić has been appointed to this position, writes the Patria News Agency.

- The procedure for promoting police officers to three management positions at the level of basic organizational unit management has been completed within the State Investigation and Protection Agency. Starting from August 1, 2016, the following positions have been filled through the promotion process: Head of the Sector for War Crimes Investigations and Criminal Offenses Punishable under International Humanitarian Law, the position of Commander of the Special Support Unit, and the position of Head of the Tuzla Regional Office – SIPA told Patria.

It is known that during the tenure of former SIPA Director Goran Zubac, who was convicted of dereliction of duty, a large number of Bosniaks were reassigned to lower positions regardless of their qualifications, and several were forced to leave SIPA, including top experts.

The position of Commander of SIPA's Special Support Unit has been vacant since the appointment of former commander Mirsad Vilić as director of the Directorate for the Coordination of Police Bodies of Bosnia and Herzegovina in April 2014.

On March 18, 2014, Zubac dismissed Enes Karić from the position of Deputy Commander of the Special Police. His place was taken by Zubac's loyal cadre, Jovica Mirosavljević.

Later, after Vilić's departure, Zubac appointed the controversial Jovica Mirosavljević, known as Chetniks, as acting commander of the Special Unit. He voluntarily left SIPA under threat of criminal liability after Perica Stanić arrived as director and went on an OSCE peacekeeping mission in Ukraine.

After that, Dalibor Milošević was appointed acting commander, who was suspended after a report was filed with the BiH Prosecutor's Office against 17 SIPA employees.

Upon taking office, SIPA Director Perica Stanić promised to correct the national imbalance, and judging by the information and actions, he is doing so.

Incidentally, after Zubac "removed" him, Karić worked as an independent inspector in the Witness Protection Department. He is one of those who helped establish SIPA's Special Unit and has appropriate management experience.
