Komšić for Turkish media: The real reasons for Dodik's rebellion are much deeper than the BiH Court's verdict

(Patria) - BiH Presidency member Željko Komšić is staying in Turkey for the fourth Antalya Diplomacy Forum. He spoke to the Cumhuriyet portal about the ongoing political instability in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Komšić emphasized that "not all problems have been resolved" in BiH, and assessed that the Dayton Peace Agreement, although it stopped the war, did not solve all problems in BiH and did not ensure the elimination of policies from the political scene that planned the "destruction" of the country.

Komšić said that the situation had been kept under control for years thanks to the strong presence of the international community, but that with the weakening of the international community's power, problems that cannot be resolved by the Dayton Peace Agreement and the Constitution have come to the fore.

"The policies that attacked Bosnia and Herzegovina, aimed at destroying it, at eliminating it as an independent state, have actually never left the scene, they have never disappeared. And that is precisely what Bosnia and Herzegovina is facing today. Today's instability is a reflection of that. The person who initiated this instability is the president of the Republika Srpska entity, Milorad Dodik. Yes, he initiated this process because of his judicial case in which he was sentenced to one year in prison and a six-year ban from political activity, but while he puts his case in the foreground, I think the real reasons are much deeper," said Komšić.

Emphasizing that the real reason is that Dayton did not solve everything, Komšić added: "The reason is that the policy that attacked Bosnia and Herzegovina has not been eliminated. It has not taken a real step towards the European Union. However, the security and stability of Bosnia and Herzegovina lie in full membership in the European Union."

Komšić emphasized that courts, prosecutor's offices, and police must show that they can do their job even under pressure, and stated:

"Of course, this is a difficult path, there are risks, but it is a path that Bosnia and Herzegovina must take. Renegotiating with Dodik about his prison sentence may bring temporary calm now, but it will open the door to new crises in the future. Therefore, Bosnia and Herzegovina and its institutions must act in accordance with the law and the constitution."
