Komšić: It is important that the people who led the defense of Sarajevo and BiH show that they are still here and capable if needed

(Patria) - The 32nd anniversary of the formation of the First Police Brigade Stari Grad and the establishment of the "Lasta" Special Purpose Police Unit was marked in Sarajevo today.

The commemoration was attended by member of the Presidency of BiH Željko Komšić, who emphasized the importance of people who led the defense of Sarajevo and BiH showing that they are still here and capable if needed.

- It is important that they show that they are proud of what they did, especially because young people today should appreciate what they did then for the defense of the homeland.

We should convey the message that those who participated in the defense of BiH are not giving up on what they thought then, nor on their actions that were directed against the enemies of this country, and not against someone because of their ethnic or political affiliation - Komšić added.

After the parade of veterans and active police officers, a march of the brigade's veterans through the center of Sarajevo followed.

Let us remind you, on this day in 1992, at Trg Oslobođenja, with the aim of boosting morale in Sarajevo, a ceremonial review of 750 members of the First Police Brigade Stari Grad was held.

It was the first review of the defense forces of the state of BiH, and after that, there was a massive enlistment of Sarajevo citizens into the ranks of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the then Territorial Defense, which proved to be crucial for the defense of the capital of BiH.
