Komšić: Foreign policy is mixing with domestic, which is why BiH has different views on events in Israel and Palestine

(Patria) - Member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina and leader of the Democratic Front, Željko Komšić, was a guest on the morning program of BHRT, where he commented on the most current events, both on the world political scene and on the domestic one.

"You cannot observe the situation without saying that the Palestinian people's struggle for their state has been going on for decades, and nothing has been achieved. I fear that all this is just the beginning of a larger conflict in which civilians will only be collateral damage, on both sides. I fear that Israel will respond brutally, the army's response has already been like that, and that the people in Gaza will pay the highest price," Komšić believes.

He adds that raising military readiness in northern Israel will lead to intervention by Hezbollah, which is a much stronger and more organized force than Hamas.

"What inspired Hamas to do this? Well, these are desperate people, and they see this type of attack and terrorizing civilians as a way out. Unfortunately, innocent people will pay the highest price," says Komšić.

Regarding the different stances of BiH officials on this conflict, Komšić says that it is because foreign policy is mixing with domestic policy.

Regarding the judgment of the European Court of Human Rights in the "Kovačević" case and the fact that BiH agents filed an appeal before the court, Komšić says that their mandate has expired.

"BiH agents before the court have the right to do so autonomously; the problem arises with active legitimacy because their mandate has expired, and the agent was dismissed on the same day she filed the request for review of the judgment. I do not believe that this appeal has any basis, i.e., that it can succeed. When you read the judgment, you will understand that there is nothing to appeal. It seems that the agents invoked the dissenting opinion of one of the judges. Now the procedure is that a five-member panel will decide whether this appeal has grounds or not," Komšić answers.

Recently, Komšić and Bećirović submitted a draft Law on State Property, however, Komšić believes that the law will not pass in the parliamentary procedure because it will not receive support from deputies from the RS.

"So, we will see what happens in the parliamentary assembly, I am not sure if they will vote from the RS, but this law is important to know that we have some platform, some position on state property. There is nothing controversial in this law, unless the RS disputes the name 'state property'," Komšić points out.

He emphasizes that the draft law does not go against the Dayton Agreement.

On how he comments on the visit of Dodik and Cvijanović to Turkey, Bećirović says that he was also invited, but since he was in Granada, he could not accept the invitation. Bećirović and Izetbegović were also invited.

"We were all invited to Turkey, I was in Granada and couldn't go, I don't know why Bećirović didn't go. He also invited Izetbegović, I asked why he didn't go. Izetbegović told me that he had a memorial tournament in Mostar and that preparations for the SDA congress were underway, and for those reasons, he could not travel to Turkey," says the DF leader.

In light of recent events in the region, specifically the conflict in Kosovo and the fact that it, in a way, awakens bad memories from the nineties in this region, Komšić says that the situation today is much different.

"The situation compared to the nineties is different now. There is no such force as the JNA was. True, both Serbia and Croatia are arming themselves, the issue of Serbia remains, but I think everyone in Serbia is aware that any war would be disastrous. I think Vučić is also aware of that," says Komšić.

When asked if Vučić is connected to Radoičić, Komšić says that Vučić does not deny knowing him and believes that he will not extradite him to Kosovo - as the President of Serbia has already said.
