Komšić: SDP is my biggest disappointment in the whole story about Marin Vukoja

(Patria) - Member of the BiH Presidency Željko Komšić was a guest tonight on Dnevnik 2 of Federal Television.

At the beginning of the show, he spoke about the significance of the adopted Resolution on the Srebrenica genocide, emphasizing that it is important for our country, above all, that the memory of Srebrenica has been included in the UN calendar.

Disgusting polemics

- Now we also have an International Day of Remembrance for Srebrenica, which should apply to the entire planet. Whether it will be commemorated in that way in all countries of the world - that is now debatable, probably not.

The abstaining countries, and this should be emphasized, in all the conversations we had with their ambassadors, none of them denied the genocide; moreover, they explicitly confirmed that they believe it is a genocide.

So, a kind of moral satisfaction, in addition to the verdicts of UN courts, was apparently not enough for some people in BiH and the region, but also in the world, to say - yes, genocide really happened in Srebrenica, given that it was adjudicated by international courts.

In that sense, this Resolution strengthens that narrative and can be a form of prevention when it comes to denying the genocide - Komšić points out.

He reminds that the Resolution is not binding, formally and legally, but, he says, from the aspect of ethics, morality, and humanity, it should be something that is binding. He assessed that the polemics about who voted 'for', who abstained, and who voted against are disgusting.

- This is not a game where we count who scored more points. It is about something that has nothing to do with that kind of logic that was attempted to be presented in BiH and the region. I cannot participate in that type of discussion.

The fact is that the Resolution was adopted. The fact is that the abstaining countries, in their statements, emphasized that they respect the fact established by the courts - that genocide was committed. Those countries that were against it did so for their own reasons - Komšić explains.

He also commented on the appearance and messages of Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić during the session of the UN General Assembly and upon his return to Belgrade.

- I am surprised by Serbia's stance. I have said this several times - if I were in Vučić's place, I would have decided to be a co-sponsor of that Resolution.

Imagine a hypothetical situation where that happened - who could reproach Serbia for anything on that issue. Even Serbia, the Serbian people, or any collective responsibility is not mentioned.

My impression - it was somehow, I can't say, tragicomic, because it was painful to watch; you watch and you can't believe it's happening in the UN General Assembly hall. You expect, regardless of different interests, some dignity in behavior.

We were shocked. You ask yourself - is this normal. A pathetic performance, it was disgusting to watch - Komšić believes.

A question for Dodik - and where would you go?

Speaking about the threats of RS President Milorad Dodik regarding secession, Komšić emphasized that the best message was sent by the US Embassy in BiH.

- And I think that is the essence. Dodik's initiation of secession from BiH actually means that the Republika Srpska could disappear. I wouldn't play with those things, because it won't be allowed, neither from our side nor from the aspect of the international community.

If he doesn't want to live in this country, let him leave personally. If he thinks he should live where the generations of his ancestors lived - he could show a little respect for that country.

I have one question for him too; I once asked him directly the same thing - and where would you go? The answer was quite simple, but it meant, to translate it, you're right - where would I go - Komšić explains.

Asked why the state coalition is not functioning, he said:

"Because it is a coalition that deceived the people of this country when it took power, as if, here, it's a new time, everyone has changed, everyone is ready for cooperation, which, of course, was false in itself. It is an ordinary lie.

In that coalition, there are different interests. Neither Milorad Dodik nor Dragan Čović has changed. Only this team 'coming from Sarajevo' has changed, which apparently needed that servility, or as foreigners would say - cooperativeness, and that false narrative, to get their hands on power.

This government was created by foreigners, let's not fool ourselves. They created it just to get rid of, above all, the SDA. They offered us to join the government, but we didn't want to.

These are the facts, and now when you have what you have, when all that dust you were sweeping under the rug starts to surge, of course everyone is grabbing their heads, because they need to deliver what they promised Dodik and Čović.

And apparently, that hasn't been well received by the people, and it can no longer be justified to the people by some kind of progress - all the progress achieved is not the result of our work but of the geopolitical situation in Europe, i.e., in Ukraine."

Answering the question why the Council of Ministers of BiH, except for Defense Minister Zukan Helez, has not dealt with the issue of BiH's NATO path in the last year, he said that "maybe in some minds that question exists, but it is clear that Dodik has stopped that story and everyone is closing their eyes and listening to what Dodik demands and says."

Finally, he explained why Marin Vukoja "must be elected as a judge of the Constitutional Court."

- Because that is what Čović demands and because the Troika, i.e., the SDP, which is my biggest disappointment in this whole story, promised Čović that they would elect Vukoja, hoping that when Seada Palavrić retires, an SDP candidate will be elected then."

The High Representative's blunders

Komšić finally spoke about the High Representative, emphasizing that "he is largely responsible for this situation we are in, with his blunders when the government was formed."

- And everything he mixed then, he is now tasting. He is trying to correct some things, especially with these technical amendments to the Election Law; I think the solutions he imposed are good.

When he leaves this country, few will remember him for that; everyone will remember him for the blunders when he suspended the Constitution - Komšić concluded.
