(Patria) - Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Željko Komšić met with UN Secretary-General António Guterres in New York.
Chairman Komšić and Secretary Guterres reiterated at the beginning of the talks that they condemn the violation of humanitarian law in Gaza and the terror being committed against innocent civilians, mostly children and women, without diminishing the terrorist act of Hamas against Israeli civilians.
Discussing developments in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Secretary Guterres congratulated the granting of candidate status and said that he would work with EU leaders to support the full membership of our country, as well as all Western Balkan countries in the Union.
Regardless of the status, Chairman Komšić said that there is a lot of work ahead of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which will have to work on internal changes in line with European laws, and that a decision on opening negotiations with the EU is pending, which, given the divided views within EU member states, could be put on hold for our country.
The interlocutors also discussed the UN Security Council session dedicated to Bosnia and Herzegovina, welcoming the unanimous vote on extending the mandate of the EUFOR mission "Althea", emphasizing the importance of its role for peace and stability, both in BiH and in the entire region.
The meeting was also attended by the permanent representative of BiH to the United Nations in New York, Zlatko Lagumdžija.
