Komšić attended the program marking the 75th anniversary of UNESCO

(Patria) - Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Željko Komšić attended the program marking the 75th anniversary of UNESCO within the 41st session of the General Conference of this UN organization in Paris.

Chairman Komšić thanked the Director-General of UNESCO Audrey Azoulay and congratulated the organization on marking this significant jubilee, with which Bosnia and Herzegovina has had successful cooperation since 1995. He particularly emphasized the importance of the current project in the field of education, which is jointly implemented by UNESCO, UNICEF, and the International Labour Organization in Bosnia and Herzegovina in cooperation with the institutions of our country.

“Unfortunately, the COVID-19 pandemic has caused enormous damage in all spheres of society in our country, including education. The project titled ‘Rethinking Education’ aims to create higher quality education for children during and after the pandemic. It is significant that the project of Bosnia and Herzegovina, for which it applied along with 149 other countries worldwide, has been recognized as exceptionally high-quality, and only 18 countries passed and received funding from a special fund, including our country. We have witnessed the closure of all educational institutions in the past period, which has had unforeseeable consequences for our children and their education. This project, funded by a special fund established by the UN Secretary-General to support recovery processes from COVID-19, will significantly help our country adapt to new ways of working, especially the most vulnerable categories of society,” said Chairman Komšić.
