Komšić Receives Award-Winning Students and Delegation from the Faculty of Law, University of Sarajevo

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Željko Komšić today received the winners of the most prestigious international human rights competition in Strasbourg, Delila Islamović, Lamija Dedagić, Anesa Karaman, and Emina Kukuljac, the Dean of the Faculty of Law at the University of Sarajevo, Zinka Grbo, and assistant Harun Išerić.

He extended his sincerest congratulations to the winners for their achieved success. Democracy, the rule of law, respect for human rights and minority rights are key to bringing Bosnian society closer to European values, as one of the important criteria from Copenhagen in the process of countries' accession to the European Union.

Emina Kukuljac, one of the award-winning students, pointed out that in the final match, they defeated the team from the Faculty of Law in Copenhagen, guided by the European Convention on Human Rights. Kukuljac explained that the topics of the simulated trial in English were violence against women and the protection of personal data.

Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Željko Komšić emphasized that Bosnia and Herzegovina needs talented and successful younger generations, who with their ideas and skills can help in the aforementioned reform processes with the aim of creating a fairer society in which every individual can realize their rights without any form of discrimination. He stressed that knowledge is the most precious thing a person can afford.

Dean of the Faculty of Law, University of Sarajevo, Zinka Grbo, emphasized that a team of ten people prepared the award-winning students for the said competition. She thanked Chairman Komšić for recognizing the effort and dedication of the Faculty of Law students, and presented him with the monograph 'Judicial Palace – Elaborate on the Protection of the Facade Cloth', authored by Mirza Hebib, Lemija Chabbouh-Akšamija, Ammar Akšamija, and Dženis Avdić.

The eighth trans-European human rights moot court competition was held from December 9 to 11, 2021, at the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg. It is one of the most important human rights competitions for law students in Europe, where the team from Bosnia and Herzegovina won this prestigious award for the first time.
