Komšić proposes Safet Zec for the April 6 Award

Mayor Ivo Komšić has submitted to the Committee for the Award of the „April 6 Award of the City of Sarajevo” a proposal that Safet Zec, a prominent Bosnian painter and graphic artist, be awarded the April 6 Award of the City of Sarajevo in 2015, taking into account the fact that, as one of our most significant artists, he has made a substantial contribution to the affirmation of the city of Sarajevo in the region and the world, reports the Patria news agency.  

-In addition to the power of his painting, it is precisely Zec's directness, sincerity, his insistence on humanism, and his emotional involvement in everything happening around him that places him at the very top of visual artists, not only in the region but throughout Europe.

Through his artistic expression, Safet Zec has left an indelible mark on Bosnian-Herzegovinian and European contemporary art, as well as playing the role of a kind of ambassador for Bosnia and Herzegovina.

He has been connected to the localities where he created and which were his inexhaustible inspiration, such as Počitelj and Srebrenica. Certainly - among them, a special place is occupied by Sarajevo, to which he gave the most.

His work „The Descent from the Cross” was declared the best by representatives of the Jesuit Order in a competition they launched on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of the Jesuit Order in Rome. The presentation of his work in the central Jesuit church in Rome, in the Della Passione chapel, at the end of September last year, was attended by Pope Francis.  

With this act, Safet, a Bosnian and Herzegovinian, a Bosnian Michelangelo, was given great honor, but also fulfilled a boyhood artistic dream of belonging to the great pleiad of artists of figurative painting, states the announcement from the City Administration.
