Komšić at the Paris Peace Forum: Solidarity is needed more than ever

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - The Chairman of the BiH Presidency, Željko Komšić, spoke at this year's Paris Peace Forum about the importance of multilateralism for resolving problems after the COVID-19 pandemic.

"In order to recover global economies and health systems as soon as possible, it is necessary to focus on the problems burdening them. We will successfully solve all these problems by approaching them on a global level.

The COVID-19 pandemic, which the whole world has been fighting for the second year in a row, has shown us all the weaknesses of these systems. We have realized our shortcomings in the worst way, and unfortunately, the poorest countries have been hit the hardest. Healing and successful recovery require action and concrete steps. Only by acting together will we build mechanisms for recovery and better protection of our health and economy, and thus help the poor countries, where, unfortunately, recovery will proceed significantly slower.

In order to prevent further division of our society, we need to use all the advantages of multilateralism to ensure the necessary resources for the recovery of the health and economic systems of poor countries. The global agreement on taxing large companies at a minimum of 15 percent, which Bosnia and Herzegovina also supported, is an excellent step towards synergy with the Strategic Development Goals and global efforts to mitigate climate change. It is precisely this synergy that will lead to a fair distribution of resources for recovery and easier functioning of countries most affected by the pandemic.

Today, more than ever, we need solidarity and concrete actions to repair the existing problems and prevent further division of our society. We need to work together for a better tomorrow for humanity," Komšić stated.
